OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH

We believe…

We believe the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God. We believe in one God existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, died on the cross for our sins and ascended into heaven to be with God. We believe the church and it’s associated ministries to be part of the body of Christ to help carry out the work of God. We believe that salvation is obtained only by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We believe that each person has individual soul liberty and must make a personal decision of repentance and faith in Christ.

We What we do…

At camp we spend intentional time with campers, and show them God’s love through our actions, relationship building, and spiritual formation activities.

Core Values…

  • People are loved and served unconditionally

  • Christ-centered community and intentional activities that promote biblical truths

  • Warm hospitality always

  • Teaching character traits of respect, inclusion, humility, responsibility and resilience

  • Getting campers and staff outside; living with, and in God’s creation

  • Staff and campers value the wellbeing of the community and strive to heal harm in relationships

Distinctive Characteristics…

  • We seek out opportunity to serve under-resourced and marginalized communities

  • Small temporary community in a (mostly) outdoor setting

  • Intentional experiential learning experiences through camp activities, worship services, vespers and small group ‘cabin time’

  • We lead with our core values, which are applied to every aspect of our ministry

  • Staff strive to provide an equitable experience for campers with aditional needs (autism, ADHD etc)

  • Intergenerational and multicultural relationships are a natural result of the longevity and diversity of our staff

Who we are…

Grotonwood is an award-winning not-for-profit camp and retreat center in our 69th year of operation. Grotonwood is governed by a Board of Directors, and is a home-mission of The American Baptist Churches of Massachusetts. We present the gospel of Jesus Christ through fun and accessible camping programs and aspie to create meaningful relationships with our campers. We focus on community and collaboration, striving to accept diversity and appreciate each individual as a child of God. Inclusion and the creation of sacred spaces is fundamental for faith-fueled curiosity, learning and spiritiual formation.

Grotonwood does not discriminate against disability, age, race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion. We welcome all persons into our Christian community, including equal participation in the life and ministries of the camp. Campers do not have to be addilitated with a particular denomination - we operate our faith-based programming under the assumption that 50-60% of the campers are experiencing a Christian community/environment for the first time.

Grotonwood complies with the regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (105 CMR 430,000), and is licensed by the Groton Fire Dept and the Groton Board of Health. Copies of camp policies on background checks, health care and discipline policies are available on request.
