WHAT IS SPRING VACATION?

Spring Vacation is a weekend retreat designed for adults over 18 years of age with cognitive and developmental disabilities and/or ASD held annually between MArch and April. The retreat is hosted at Grotonwood Camp & Conference Center, an award-winning ADA accessible Lake front facility, where children and adults have enjoyed summer camps for over 60 years. The weekend provides a respite from the everyday and inspires campers to participate in things they would not normally get the opportunity to try at home. Activities usually include an Easter egg hunt, chapel time, campfire with S’mores, archery, outdoor games, hayrides, low and high ropes courses, spring inspired arts & crafts, trivia with prizes, a themed banquet, awards and much more!

WHO CAN ATTEND?

Spring Vacation is a weekend retreat designed for adults over 18 years of age with cognitive and developmental disabilities and/or on the Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our ratio of staff to camper care is strictly 1:4. To enjoy a successful experience, campers must be moderately-independent and have a level of mobility that allows for climbing stairs, traversing uneven terrain and standing for pro-longed periods of time unassisted. Staff provide assistance with meal times and ADL’s and ensure engagement and participation at activities.

Our focus is to inspire friendship, fun and fellowship through activities that stimulate conversation and provide opportunity for skill building and socialization. Our program activities such as archery for example work on fine motor skills and our Drum Alive cardio workouts incorporate aerobic exercise. Spring Vacation provides a respite from the everyday and inspires campers to participate things they would not normally get the opportunity to try at home.

Whilst we strive to provide camping experiences for all campers, this particular session is not suitable for adults requiring 1:1 care, or those who have limited mobility as the program requires campers to climb stairs, traverse uneven terrain and stand for pro-longed periods of time unassisted. Grotonwood provides exclusive programs every June for wheelchair users and those requiring a higher ratio of care.
